It seems to me that we are not looking at the paintings, but they are looking at us. You know this for sure when you return to the museum and see a familiar face from your favorite paintings. Then every time you are surprised how you notice something completely new. The picture seems completely different, although in fact it is our inner world that looks deeper and overflows again and again.
